What does Svetilen Mean?
Свѣтиленъ, or Svetilen, literally means, "herald of the approaching light." It is the Slavonic translation of the Greek word "Exapostilarion" which is the title of a short hymn that comes at the end of the Canon at Matins. In Slavonic service books this hymn is called the Svetilen or "song of light." Since iconography depicts light, and is a window which gives a brief glimpse into heaven, Svetilen seemed a fitting name for an iconography studio.
Who is Svetilen Studios?
Svetilen Studios is the brainchild of Denise Norman, designed to provide a venue for her artwork. Working in many different media, her artwork has been enjoyed by many thoughout the USA. She is an Orthodox Christian, mother, workforce development professional, musician, iconographer, fiber artist and struggler.
